When you select your sandals from Her Best Foot Forward, you're actually collaborating with the woman who made them - and fulfilling a commitment in which women help elevate other girls and women.

HOW DOES THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARTISAN AND BUYER WORK?  Your sandals were made by a Tanzanian woman earning a fair wage and a host of benefits. You'll purchase them at a fair price.  Together: you'll determine how the proceeds from the sandals are equally divided to elevate girls and women through one of our three vetted causes. 

For example:

• MARY: the Tanzanian woman who made your sandals, remembers her daily challenge she faced as young girl who gathered her family's water. Setting out on a long trek on still dark mornings was not only frightening and dangerous, it also meant that she was not able to attend school as regularly as her brothers. Sometimes, when the water source ran dry, she spent the entire day walking - and didn't attend school at all. Mary thus decides that her portion of the proceeds will help make clean water more accessible so that, somewhere in her country, girls are spared the dangerous, demoralizing, and diminishing job of retrieving water.
• LIKE MARY: you, too, loved attending school. While school is provided without cost in Tanzania, each child must have a school uniform. In many families, the education of boys is the focus and girls are often deemed less worthy of an investment in a school uniform.  You decide that your portion of the proceeds will provide a girl with a school uniform.

HOW DO OUR COLLABORATIONS WITH CAUSES WORK? We've identified organizations already effectively addressing fundamental humanitarian needs in Tanzania. Rather than funding our own projects, we strive to bring beautiful, fairly made products to people of vision, allowing proceeds from their purchases to support impactful charities already doing great work. This Swahili proverb - Elimu ni mali ambayo adui hawezi kuiteka articulates what we believe - Education is a possession that no enemy can take. Helping our artisans gain access to education increases the likelihood that they will educate their children (and that their children will follow suit).
