Using proceeds from the sale of our products and support from generous donors, in 2017 Her Best Foot Forward launched a new social enterprise - UhuruPads. As Africa's first 100% compostable and biodegradable sanitary pads, we employ local women who make pads to support thousands of girls, keeping them in school with confidence and dignity.
When we provide the pads, we also present affirming, confidence-building, health and hygiene education and a set of new, clean undergarments: many girls do not have underwear.
Operating with award-winning technology developed by Aakar Innovations of India, our goal is to ensure that understanding that menstruation is healthy and natural part and make available safe, sustainable products without environmental degradation or stressing critical, limited resources.

You Can Help!

Help From Home: Cycle Circles
CYCLE CIRCLES (or CCs) are beaded bracelets featuring five bold colors to help young women just starting menstruation tune in to their cycles—so they can feel confident each day. The order of the colors in a CC provides a guide as to what can be expect during different phases of the menstrual cycle.
A great gift and an opportunity for important conversations with sisters, daughters, and friends, CC's also give back, facilitating the provision of UhuruPads menstrual hygiene products, undergarments, and critically needed health and hygiene for girls in East Africa.
Every CYCLE CIRCLE Action Kit purchased supports at least one girl's participation in our menstrual hygiene program in East Africa, allowing girls to stay in school while receiving sustainable products and affirming menstrual health education.

KIT FEEDBACK REQUEST: Are you a member or leader in a Junior (or older) Girl Scout troop? As we constantly look to improve our CYCLE CIRCLE Action Kits, during the month of January, we are accepting requests for FREE sample kits (our 13-bracelet size). To participate, please provide your name, Troop #, and mailing address here.
Note: FREE Kits are limited and recipients will be notified of their selection (depending upon the number of requests, we will make a random selection on February 1, 2023). Those selected are requested cover shipping cost (US shipping only - less than $10, invoiced via secure Square link), however, if shipping costs are a hardship, we will work with you! In addition, we require that you complete a short survey sharing your feedback on the kit, our "how to" videos, and anything else we can do to improve!

Become a Donor!
At a cost of approximately $12 per school year, a girl can receive health and hygiene education, as well as a supply of 100% compostable sanitary pads and a set of new undergarments. Donate here via the Foot Forward Fund!
As advocates for menstrual hygiene equity, we're pretty obsessed with all things "monthly!" By giving just $5 or more monthly, you'll be part of our 5|28 Circle!
Why 5|28?
- 5 represents the typical days of the menstrual flow
- 28 represents the typical length of the cycle in total
The logo shown is an adaptation of the menstrual cycle empowerment bracelets we provide the girls we serve. These allow the girls to track their cycle and better understand its phases. As thanks for your support, you'll receive your own bracelet-making kit upon joining - and on your 5|28 anniversary each year!
